Jeremy Bullmore Died.
If you’re in advertising and don’t know who he is… you should.
WPP publicly shares most of his writings, but here is a little collection of some of my favorites. (Dropbox Link to folder of PDFs)

True of ads, of briefs, of presentations.

A wild fact that has implications of all sorts:
Listening to 80db of white noise (being on a plane) decreases your ability to taste sweet or salty. Increases ability to taste umami by up to 30%
Taste (moreover, experience) is so heavily influenced by our environment.
Tangential:
I’d love to see the stats on pitch wins:losses on home vs away meetings.

A shout out:
If you are in a field that deals with how people behave (most jobs) I’d hope you’ve read Richard Shotton’s The Choice Factory. If not, do so.
Anyway, he’s got a new book coming out: “The Illusion of Choice: 16 ½ psychological biases that influence what we buy.” (I’m willing to bet the “1/2” bit is one of them)
You can pre-order it here. This isn’t a paid partnership thing – I just know that we could all be a bit more aware of the invisible hand of behavioral bias that guides our day to day.
(I think I’m gonna try and do a shout out per issue)

From “Junior” – a book about copywriting that is relevant to more than just copywriters.
From right to left, this is how a pitch presentation should flow.
A few other gems from that book:

This is my kinda shit. A reminder that not everything new is necessarily going to work out.

From 98% Pure Potato. A history of Planning.
Highly recommend if you’re into what planning
is/was/is meant to be…

Also, a reminder that possibly the best brief format in existence was one of the first brief formats ever written:

Via “Visual Culture” from MIT Press’s Essential Knowledge Series.
An important reminder re; what we for a living in the advertising world.

I’ve talked before about how writing is an important way to clarify your thinking. However there is of course a paradox here:

A great thread that reframed how I view cinema (and nicely articluated what I’ve been referring to as the “spectacle-ization of movies”)
WEEKLY MONSTER
A mock for what will hopefully be my next large format canvas.
A monster we’re all familiar with.
